A removable denture, held by implants
An implant-retained overdenture is a denture that connects to a number of implants rather than resting on the gums alone. You can still take it out to clean it, and it is held more securely than a conventional denture while it is in.
The difference is most noticeable in the lower jaw, where a conventional denture tends to be more unstable. For many people, this makes eating and speaking feel reliable again, without the surgery and cost of a fixed restoration.
The number of implants required depends on your individual case, the bone available and how the denture is designed to be supported.

How treatment is planned & delivered
A similar assessment phase is performed as with conventional dentures, with additional planning for the required implants. Implant placement may be provided by one of our specialists or another surgical clinician, depending on the case and existing care arrangements. Time is then allowed for the bone to heal around the implants.
The denture is then made, or an existing denture adapted, and connected to the implants using attachments that clip into place. A try-in stage is usually included so fit and appearance can be confirmed before the work is completed.
Because healing time is part of the process, treatment commonly extends over several months.
Long-term care
An overdenture needs the same daily cleaning as a conventional denture, plus careful cleaning around each implant, because an implant can lose supporting bone or develop an infection if plaque is left around it.
The attachments that hold the denture are wearing parts, and they are designed to be replaced over time to maintain good function. A periodic review will check the fit of the denture, the bite, the health of the tissues around the implants, and the attachments (replacements if required).
Experience & ExpertisePatient Referrals
Patient referrals are always welcome, although they are not required. We work closely with referring dentists and provide care only for the stages requested. Clear reports are provided, and patients return to their general dentist for ongoing care.
